Pulled Sugar Orchid Wedding Cake This wedding cake design is somewhat of a combination of a traditional cake and a more contemporary version. It is enrobed with rolled fondant and decorated with royal icing and pulled sugar orchids and ribbons. The ribbons and orchids are attached to the cake with rods of pulled sugar attached to the back and inserted securely into the cake. The separators are made in one piece from acrylic rods and plates and just slide into the cake below it; providing a quick and sturdy way to tier a wedding cake. A silver stand such as this one accents an already beautiful wedding cake. The ribbons can be made quickly by pulling long pulled sugar ribbons on a work bench, letting them cool and then cutting to length with a hot knife and then gently reheating them under a heat lamp and forming into ribbons. The orchids are comprised of
the central flower made from five round petals, sugar stamens and tendrils.
The leaves are made by pulling the sugar in the leaf shape and then forming
in a large silicone leaf press made for the purpose. |
